Top tips for alfresco dining

Here are some useful tips to help you plan and pack for the perfect alfresco
experience:

  • To avoid food poisoning make sure everything you pack for a picnic has been well cooked and then cooled. If you want cooked meats at the picnic, plan your menu in advance and make sure it is cooled before it is packed.
  • Foods that are normally refrigerated such as meat, chicken, cheese or yoghurt should not be left out of a cooler box for more than 2 hours. Try to keep them out of direct sunlight for long periods too. Always store hot flasks separately.
  • Bring along a cutting board and a couple of knives. You’ll be suprised
at how often you’ll use them, especially if Castello is on the menu.
Use separate knives for meat, fruit and cheese. Store sharp knives
in the centre of fruits like apples or oranges for safety while traveling.
